10. The Dark Knight
Not only is this my favorite comic book to movie adaptation, but it also has one of the best acting performances ever to be put on the big screen. The Dark Knight is the best movie out of Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy. This movie was immensely satisfying from start to finish and was riddled with top notch performances from every single actor in the movie.
9. Signs
This movie proves how amazing M. Night Shamalyamadingdong used to be. The last 3rd act of the movie is one of the most suspenseful and eerie 3rd acts of any movie...ever. M. Night Shamalyan shot this movie beautifully and it is contributed by an amazing score. This movies morals of togetherness and belief in religion is so subtle that it makes it blatantly obvious.
8. Die Hard
Yippe Kay Yay Mother F***er. This is not only probably one of the most well done actions movies ever made, but it introduced us to a new wave of vulnerable action heroes. Though now the plot of this movie might seem very generic and bland, it was the first of its kind back in 88'. Now nearly 30 years later, not one movie with its plot (one man against all odds takes on dozens of people) has come close to the level of bada** this movie portrays on screen.
7. Her
This was my favorite movie of 2013 and it was for many good reasons. Right now from the millions of movies ever made, there are very few amazingly original movies, and this is one of them. Her raises questions about true love and what our society will be in the near future. From scene 1 to the final credits of the movie, i was incredibly engaged in Joaquin phoenix performance. Not to mention the amazing voice work of Scarlet Johansson, who i think should have been nominated for best supporting actress.
6. Children of Men
After i watched this movie, i went back to some of the scenes and i discovered that the main color scheme for the movie is gray and black. This is why i love the movie so much, the human race does not die in a big spectacle but instead quietly and probably more realistic. The movie was also brilliantly directed and has an amazing lead performance from Clive Owen.
5. Shutter Island
It might scene like a crime to cinema in many peoples eyes, but this is my favorite Martin Scorsese movie. I think this movie is one of the most underrated movies of all time. It is so beautifully made and shot and the whole movie feels gloomy and has a huge sense of dread over the entire movie. This is also one of my favorite Leo performances. Shutter Island kept me guessing to the very end and even after the end credits. This movie also has one of my personal favorite movie quotes ever.
4. Let Me In
Before i start i must say that i have seen the movie that this is based off of "Let the Right One In." However I think this movie was far superior in nearly every single way. The performances by the child actors shows that child actors do indeed not suck. This movie is BEAUTIFULLY shot, with long lingering violent shots. It also have a very interesting moral point to the story, which is how much people will do for love. I can't think of a movie that is more well shot and made than this one.
3. The Fighter
Anything David O'Russell made after this movie i was going to look forward to. There have only been a few times when i have been fully engrossed in a movie like this one. The Fighter has career best performances by its three leads Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams. It is also the best sports drama ever made IMO. The Fighter provides amazing looks on what people do for their families.
2. Shawshank Redemption
Need i say anything? This movie is a complete classic and a masterpiece to cinema. I would be surprised if someone told me that they did not like this movie.
1. Perks of Being a Wallflower
I can't express my undying love for this movie. I have seen this movie 8+ times and i have yet to find a fault in it. It is the most emotionally moving movie i have ever experienced. The performances are the best of the best and the fact that the author of the book directed this movie blows my mind. This is the perfect movie and i recommend that everyone experiences this movie at least once in your life. Especially if you weren't the most popular person in high school and had a hard time finding a group of friends.
